Buying the ticket
I had to get fr om Warsaw (Poland) to Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and then return to Krakow (Poland). The cheapest rates were found on www.expedia.com. The total for both flights ended up being 126 USD (although they had to be purchased 2 months ahead).
The prices on the official websites of airline companies are usually somewhat higher, so if you’re interested in saving money I would recommend looking to independent booking websites to book your tickets. The fares are usually lower than on the companies’ official websites.
For example, the Russian-language version of Lufthansa’s official website doesn’t offer the cheapest rates and often lists only the price of the airfare, to which various additional taxes and fees are added when you purchase, resulting in a doubling of the cost.
Check-in
You can register for your flight and pick your seat up to 23 hours before departure time, which is what I ended up doing. I checked in using a smartphone – the mobile version of the site is lightweight and simple to use. The only issue with this is that it assigned my seat automatically instead of letting me pick my own.
But this was no biggie – both the Warsaw and Frankfurt airports have plenty of self check-in machines which you can use to change your seat after you scan your passport or enter the receipt code. This procedure is very convenient, but only available to passengers with no luggage to check. In my case, I was even able to print the boarding pass for next day’s return flight right on the spot.

Luggage
The weight lim it on checked luggage in the economy class of European flights is 44lbs (20kg). Economy class passengers are allowed to carry on one piece of luggage measuring 22” x 16” x 8” (55cm x 40cm x 20cm) and weighing no more than 18 lbs (8 kg), and a small purse or laptop case.
Rewards Program for Frequent Flyers
Lufthansa is one of the main founders and promoters of Miles & More, a rewards program for frequent flyers (all members of the airline alliance, StarAlliance, participate in the program).
For the flight from Warsaw to Frankfurt, I was credited 125 miles (based on the price of my ticket). I was later likewise credited for my return flight from Frankfurt to Krakow with LOT Polish Airlines, which is also a member of Star Alliance.
This may not seem like much, but then again, I got my ticket at the lowest possible rate, and I wasn’t traveling very far.
Before Takeoff

The new terminal of Warsaw Chopin Airport is big and spacious. I’ve rarely seen friendlier and more convenient facilities. There were large and numerous Duty Free shops, comfortable padded seats in the waiting area, free WiFi after the security check, and a nice, panoramic view of the airport. Basically, everything necessary to make your wait as relaxing as possible.

Restrictions on carry-on size in Warsaw weren’t policed too strictly. We boarded the plane via a ramp. 20-25 minutes later, the plane rolled out onto the runway.
The Flight
The services provided by the company are more than satisfactory for short-distance flights (I have never yet had the opportunity to fly long-distance with Lufthansa).
The plane, a Boeing-737-300, was outfitted to Lufthansa specifications. The seat is a new, low-profile design with leather upholstery. Leg room was ample.
When addressing the passengers through the PA, the captain spoke in German and English. Before takeoff, they also played a recorded welcome speech in Polish. The onboard magazine wasn’t especially intriguing and looked a little the worse for wear.

In-flight Meals
On the Warsaw-Frankfurt flight (approximately 1.5 hour travel time), flight attendants distributed sandwiches and drinks (a choice of tea, coffee, juice and beer).
