The New York-Miami flight has two classes – economy and business. Economy class with American Airlines is no different from flying with low-cost carriers: the tickets were cheap, but the flight offered minimal service; there was no luggage allowance, and no meals.

A distinctive trait of flying within the US: you have to pay for every piece of checked luggage separately. The fee for the first suitcase is $25, the second costs another $35.

Most passengers brought all their luggage as carry-on, using bags just under the size limit, which unfortunately meant that all the room in the overhead compartments quickly filled up. The interior of the Boeing-757-200 has a pretty worn appearance, indicating its long service life. The finish is typical for the 1990s, with blue cloth upholstery and whitish-gray paneling that’s beginning to yellow.

Conclusion: an intra-country flight in the US with American Airlines is a lot like a long road trip by bus. The basic prices of the tickets are low, but every additional service is provided for an extra cost. The planes do follow their schedules pretty closely.
