Comac C909 is the first jet airliner entirely developed in China. The aircraft is designed for use on short-haul routes. In developing the airliner, components from the MD-90 aircraft, which was mass-produced in China under license, were widely used. At the same time, a new wing was developed, and the design uses modern on-board systems from foreign manufacturers.
The regional jet was initially named the ARJ21 (Advanced Regional Jet). In November 2024, the name was changed to C909 to align it with Comac's other products, the larger C919 and C929 airliners.
The Comac C909 has been in service since 2016 and continues to be produced in series. The aircraft family consists of several models: C909 (base model, former ARJ21-700) и C909ER (extended range), C909CBJ (business jet) и C909CCF (cargo aircraft).
