An amazing aircraft way ahead of its time. Thanks to the decision to fit it with Rolls-Royce engines, about the same time it was a financial disaster. Had Lockheed chosen the GE-CF6 as McDonald Douglas did, it would have arrived on the market at about the same time the DC-10 did. The L-1011 was a luxury liner without design flaws. In 30 years of business flying it was the only plane in which I was riding which lost an engine. NO BIG DEAL, as we landed uneventfully and Delta Airlines (the plane's operator at the time) arranged for a near-instantaneous transfer at DFW. I'd fly on it any time....
